Resin Mixing Guide:

PoxyArt Casting XL Resin is a two-part Epoxy Resin that can be used for making larger volume resin castings in moulds and furniture items. PoxyArt Resin has no fumes or VOC’s.

Before you start:

  • Only mix as much resin as you need, rather mix too little and add more, than mix too much and waste.
  • Make sure you work on a level work surface as resin is self-levelling.
  • Casting XL is a very thin liquid, make sure to seal up your home-made moulds to ensure the product does not leak out anywhere.
  • When pouring large volumes like tables, take in consideration the cooling requirements.
  • Due to the long curing time, you will have clearer casting with minimal bubbles as the air has time to escape before getting trapped in the resin.
  • Any spills or tools can be cleaned with Acetone.
  • Always wear the appropriate PPE when working with resin.
  • PoxyArt Casting XL can be tinted with PearlEx Powder and Pinata ink. Always do a test to see what the final colour will be before starting a big project.

PoxyArt Casting XL resin  is a two-part Epoxy Resin that is mixed by weight (2 part Resin + 1 part Hardener). For sake of clarity, we will be mixing 150g final product. (This can be scaled up according to your needs.)

Mixing Instructions:

  • Pour 100g Resin into your mixing cup.
  • Add 50g Hardener to the Resin to form a 150g mixture.
  • Mix slowly but well, until no streaks are visible in the mixture. (about 3 minutes) Remember to scrape the sides and the bottom of your cup to ensure everything is mixed completely.
  • At this stage you can add a pigment to colour your resin or leave as is for a clear casting. (mix well after adding pigment to get an even colour.)
  • Pour your mixture into your mould.
  • You can use a heat gun or pass a blow torch or lighter flame just above the surface to pop any air bubbles.
  • The bigger the volume you mix, the quicker the resin will start to set. PoxyArt Casting XL will only start gelling up after 4-8 hours.
  • Cover your casting to protect it from dust and leave to set for 7 days. (The larger the volume the quicker it will set)
  • The Resin should now be set solid and can be sanded and polished if needed.
