PPE – Personal Protective Equipment
What do you need to know to use your resin safely?
Remember that epoxy resin is a chemical, and a chemical reaction is taking place when you mix the two parts together.
PoxyArt is very proud that our resins are VOC and solvent free, making it a little bit safer for our customers.
What are VOC's?
“Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are organic chemicals that have a high vapour pressure at room temperature. High vapor pressure correlates with a low boiling point, which relates to the number of the sample’s molecules in the surrounding air, a trait known as volatility.”[1]“VOC’s are responsible for the odor of scents and perfumes as well as pollutants. VOCs play an important role in communication between animals and plants, e.g. attractants for pollinators,[2] protection from predation,[3] and even inter-plant interactions.[4] Some VOCs are dangerous to human health or cause harm to the environment. Anthropogenic VOCs are regulated by law, especially indoors, where concentrations are the highest. Most VOCs are not acutely toxic, but may have long-term chronic health effects.”
We recommend using the following PPE?
Even though our resins are VOC and solvent free, we do suggest using adequate PPE for fumes as you are heating the resin and adding other pigments into the mix.
We recommend using the following masks and working in a well ventilated space.
You also need to take into consideration that you are working with a chemical. You do not want to get it on your hands. If you do get it on your skin clean with wet-wipes or wipe with some acetone, wash your skin after with soap and water.
We recommend always wearing cloves when working with resin.
